Services that normally take one business day to complete-such as cashing a check for example-will not go through until the next business day, which this year is July 6. That means most businesses and offices, including banks, are shut today. However, because July 4 falls on a Sunday this year, the holiday is observed on Monday, July 5. Traditionally, banks, like the majority of businesses, are closed on July 4 as on other federal holidays.
